I Heart Design

15 July 2007

BBQ at the Cape! After about a one month hiatus, I’m finally back. I’ll admit to having spent a lot of time on this new design, but it may not even show. There were a lot of other technical issues I had to work out, and like always, I adopted a pretty haphazard and disorganized routine for putting everything together. When it comes to strictly personal projects like my own homepage, planning and careful execution go right out the window.

Nonetheless, I had quite a bit of fun with this layout. Breaking it into pieces and integrating it with WordPress was probably the most time consuming part of the job, but I’m grateful that everything can be done in PHP. As you’ve probably already seen, I wrote a little poll in PHP, so cast your vote and let me know if it breaks. Also, I’ve integrated Twitter and SimpleViewer (I got the idea from Beccary) to give readers something more to look at while they’re here.

Unofficially, the name of this theme is Vesna.

Last Month at a Glance

Anyway, it’s been over a month since you’ve heard from me, so I suppose a few updates are in order. I don’t often like to just ramble on objectively about the things I’ve been doing, since only people with Xanga’s do that, so I’ll be brief.

  • My paychecks were going to the wrong address, so I was, for a short time, without financial backing.
  • Masato and I went to see the fireworks on July 4th. It rained all night, which in my opinion is just fundamentally wrong.
  • I went to Cape Cod two weekends in a row. The MIT folks are pretty cool.
  • I rented a bicycle. I now bike to work, which is far more enjoyable, albeit dangerous, than waiting for the T.
  • I played around with the iPhone at the local Apple store and found it to be an impressive piece of hardware and innovation. However, in a few years, similar devices will be commonplace, marketed by more than one company, and simply better. I can wait.
  • I started playing my horn again. After four years, my chops are completely gone.
  • I went to BBoy Olympics 5.
  • I went sailing with interns from other nearby IBM offices. And by sailing I mean we all sat around and took pictures in the boat while the captain sailed it for us.
  • I have had the opportunity to play some tennis. I still slice on my backhand side way too much, but my serve is remarkably intact after all these years.

With this site up and functioning (barely), I am looking forward to having more free time, which I will inevitably waste.
