In order to fulfill a bargain negotiated between myself and a close friend, I am tasked with producing a list of my top ten favorite songs. Quel burden, yes? Perhaps, but so far, I am at least sure that Michelle Branch will make a conspicuous appearance on this list.
Who among us remembers when, in 2001, Michelle took the world by the storm? She was a fleeting sensation to all the hormonally driven teenagers like myself searching for a guitar-strumming, song-writing, half-Asian sweetheart. Seven years later; still rockin’ my playlist.

But unfortunately while I google’d “michelle branch bares all”, I found that she, in fact, is not half-Asian. Well, her mother apparently is Dutch-Indonesian, and I guess Indonesia is probably somewhere in (the less important parts of) Asia. So does that make her 1/4?

Yeah, I was aware of her less-than-half-Asian-ness, but I was too lazy to figure out how to articulate that fact eloquently in the language above. As a result, I overemphasized her Asian roots, which is what popular culture does anyway .
And let’s not forget the small but undeniable population of Indonesian Chinese living in Indonesia.
